Hand Made Original Arts and Crafts Lantern
A fascinating antique lantern dating back to the early Arts and Crafts period and is attributed to Jesson and Birkett. Small in size and beautifully designed, the style is both innocent yet clever. Most interesting is the way the top of the frame joins onto the hanging hoop. Featuring the classic heart shaped cut out in the deep collar section. The frame is made from hammered brass which has simply been cleaned with wire wool and waxed to avoid spoiling the beautiful patina.
The vaseline glass tube is over 100 years old and compliments the lantern perfectly. The frame simply hooks under the glass to be held in place.
A one off piece and a beautiful example of naive metal work from the Arts and Crafts Movement.
