About Ashby Lighting

Ashby Lighting was established in 2014 by Martin and Rachel Ashby.  Initially trading as Ashby Interiors we sold a broad range of home antiques and aviation antiques.  Soon it became apparent that lighting was our passion and in 2023 we rebranded as Ashby Lighting.

Martin is a Chartered Engineer with a background in the aerospace industry.  With a keen interest in Art Nouveau, the Arts and Crafts Movement and a strong creative flair, Martin is busy restoring antique lighting whilst also designing and manufacturing our own hand crafted Ashby Collection.   The emphasis is always on producing the highest quality and providing excellent customer service

Rachel is the first point of contact for our customers and ensures that everything runs smoothly from first enquiry to dispatch of orders.  We know that buying the perfect light can be a little daunting so Rachel is happy to discuss your project and work with you to find the perfect lights.  Our aim is to ensure that buying a light from Ashby Lighting is an enjoyable and memorable experience not just a purchase.

Lorna has worked with us for six years and assists in all aspects of our business from photography and loading new stock onto the website to carefully packing and shipping our lighting. No two days are the same at Ashby Lighting and her flexible approach and sense of humour are indispensable.

Our workshop and showroom is based in Melbourne, South Derbyshire and you are more than welcome to visit by appointment to discuss your lighting project.

Testimonials

Just bought a stunning opaline fitting

A bit worried about delivery of a fragile antique glass light fitting but no need to be as packaged so well it could have gone round the world and still have ended up in one piece - thank you Rachel - a new very happy customer

Wonderful service and a stunning antique lamp!

Rachel at Ashby Interiors was lovely to deal with when I called with some pre-order questions. The lamp arrived swiftly and safely packed and was exactly as described on the website – more beautiful if anything. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for antique lighting.

Five star customer service

A pleasure to shop with. This art nouveau chandelier was super well packed with care. Price point is spot on. Would highly recommend.

Test

Your personalised and helpful emails and customer service throughout the process was superb and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you ...

We worked closely with a customer of ours to supply three restored opaline glass lights to perfectly compliment the refurb of her London town house. We frequently post fragile restored glass lighting which surprises some of our customers who imagine it to be almost impossible to receive it in one piece. We always use Parcelforce and package very carefully using double walled boxes, foam chippings, corrugated card inserts and lots of bubble wrap. See below for our You-Tube Clip for more information. Just wanted say thank you for such a pleasant and easy transaction. And the lamp is Lush! ...

The lamp is an original WWII mine sweeper lamp which was used aboard a fishing boat during the war. The tripod is also a World War II original item. When we sell larger items such as this, or furniture, we always use a door to door courier to ensure safe delivery. We have a trusted courier who does this important job for us. There is nothing worse than selling a beautiful and often rare item only for it to arrive smashed.

FAQ's

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. If you don’t find the answer, please get in touch by email or phone.

I’m unsure of my exact requirements. Can you help?

We will happily offer a no obligation advisory service to help you make the right choice of light(s). We would love to hear about your plans, to see photos of the space where the light will go and offer you suggestions to help complete your room with the perfect light.

Do you sell shades separately?

We have a large stock of unrestored shades and will happily help you to find a replacement for a broken or missing shade if possible.  We don’t advertise the shades on their own so drop us a message.

Do you offer a choice of bulb holders?

We fit our pendant lights and lamps with B22 bayonet bulb holders as standard but if you would prefer an E27 screw in bulb holder, or another type please enquire prior to purchase.   We will fit this at no extra cost.

Are our lights suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

We can now supply a water-resistant bulb holder which is IP44 compliant. Please enquire prior to purchase to check if this can be fitted to the light you are looking at. This modification will incur a small additional charge.

I will need more than 1 meter of cable on my pendant light, is that possible?

At no extra cost, we will happily wire your light with up to 2 metres of cable and supply the suspension chain to match.

What if I decide my item isn't right for me when it arrives?

We will happily refund the cost of the item in full  (minus postage) provided that you carefully package and return the item to us using a signed for carrier.

How quickly can I expect to receive my order?

We wire and PAT test our lights to order.  Please allow 7-10 days for dispatch.  However, if you need a light more quickly than this, please let us know as you order and we will do our best to accommodate your delivery requirements.  Other items will be despatched within three working days.

What if my light arrives damaged?

Don’t worry!  We have had years of experience packing our fragile lights.  We pack extremely carefully and ask that you carefully unpack the light within 48 hours of receipt.  If there should be damage to the light at that time we will replace it at our expense or if that isn’t possible, offer you a full refund.

Can you give the brass fittings an aged look?

Yes we can give an aged patina to polished brass or copper fittings.  This is usually free of charge but please ask enquire before purchase.

Does my light have a guarantee?

All our lights are guaranteed against electrical fault/failure for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase.

Can I come and view the item I am interested in buying?

Yes of course. Whilst we aren’t open to the public at set times, we would welcome you to come and visit.  Just contact us by phone or email to make arrangements.

Can I collect my item in person?
