Antique white glass lighting is as popular as it ever was which is no surprise when we think about its versatility and enduring appeal.

White glass lighting diffuses the light beautifully creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.  It looks fabulous even when unlit as it will reflect the natural light from the surface.  It can be found with either a gloss or satin finish.

Sometimes referred to as opaline lighting, it dates back to the early 20th century and in particular the art deco period.  So it is perfect for a period home where you are looking for understated glamour.  Originally white glass lighting was popular in  industrial settings such as offices, factories, schools and churches.  For this reason, they are often referred to as chapel lights or school house lights.

White glass lighting really is perfect for the kitchen.  With so many styles and sizes to choose from, it works well hung in rows above the kitchen island.  Almost all white glass lights have metal fittings or galleries which gives you the perfect opportunity to match the metal finish on kitchen hardware such as door handles and knobs.  We can supply nickel plated, polished brass and copper or a dark bronzed finish to help you achieve a carefully curated look.

White glass globe shades also combine perfectly with brass chandeliers to give a timeless brasserie look.

The finishing touch to your opaline pendant light is the cable colour.  We always use antique style fabric twist cable which comes in every colour you can imagine in addition to the traditional colours.  You can choose to match an accent colour in your room or go for a bright contrast such as a vibrant pink which will immediately give your antique white glass light a contemporary vibe.  It’s the small details like lighting cable colour that give that designer look to your room.

Not all white glass is in simple shapes.  Some of the antique opaline light fittings we have in stock have that extra detail, a tasselled base or finial or a pressed pattern in the glass.  Selecting a white glass pendant light with added detail will add a statement piece to your room  without the over-bright look of crystal.

We can also make your antique white glass light IP44 rated if is going into a bathroom by adding one of our IP44 compliant bulb holders.
